James Schaffer

As a Charlotte native, Dr. Schaffer has long been driven to improve the health of the local community. An Arabian proverb set the tone for his work and his life’s mission: “He who has health has hope, and he who has hope has everything.” Helping people of all ages focus on their health and disease prevention is his top priority.

After a 12-year career in the US Navy as a family physician, Dr. Schaffer returned home and helped start a family medicine practice in the SouthPark area of Charlotte. Under his leadership, the practice grew from two to ten providers. He was selected every year between 2012 and 2017 as a Top Family Doctor by Charlotte magazine. In 2016, he moved into a leadership role with a large healthcare organization in Charlotte, responsible for over 20 primary care and specialty practices in the area.

Dr. Schaffer is passionate about creating patient-centered, evidence-based and top-quality medical practices. As medical director for the Charlotte region for One Health Consulting Group, Dr. Schaffer’s mission is to find the unique place for both providers and patients to provide and receive high-quality healthcare. To enhance the health for the entire community, Dr. Schaffer focuses on value-based care and closing healthcare gaps. He is excited to bring more options to the citizens of the Charlotte community.

Dr. Schaffer completed his medical school training at Duke University, an internship at Bremerton Naval Hospital and residency at Jacksonville Naval Hospital.
